From my previous blogs, you already know I work in shifts. Well this day, I was in the morning shift. The cabs normally pick us up anytime between 4:45-6:15 AM. (They are very efficient). Anyway, today was one of the days the cab decided to pick me up late. I woke up at 4:30 as always and was ready by 5 AM. Now, there isn't much one can do at 5 in the morning just before you go to work. So i turned on the tube.
There wasn't much I could watch on mute, so I switched on to the Australian Open. There was a ladies match going on between Hunting-Nova something and someone else.
Well, I saw a couple of sets before the cab picked me up for work. When I was asked by a friend at work what I was doing up so early in the morning, I told her what I was seeing.
The first thing she asked," Did you see what outfit they were wearing?"
How rude was that! Just because we are men, why is it assumed we watch ladies tennis to see the ladies. Why cant a normal straight man watch a game of tennis for the Love of the game? Cant a guy watch a ladies game to see the fine backhand or powerful serve of the players? Why is it assumed that we would actually spend hours of our time watch a doubles ladies game and not know the score? We do admire the game as it is and would watch it no matter who was playing.
This unfortunately is one of the many cases of stereo-typing guys as being morons who's every action is motivated by one other factor. I don't think I need to spell it out. We guys watch ladies tennis for the same reason we would see any other game. And it's all in the spirit of sport and nothing else.
FYI: One of the players wore a very cute white and sky blue Nike ensemble while the other had a white and gray Adidas skirt and shirt. ;-)
It's not my fault the women look mighty good while playing tennis. Lol.
