This is the future of IIM??????

For anyone who has grown up in a household with relatives from XLRI or IIM-C, they are always told about the great rivalries between the two colleges. My dad and cousin both passed out of XLRI, and I have heard numerous stories of all the competitions that the two institutes have had over the years. There is always the customary taunting of the rival team during any college. God save the team that wasn't on home ground.

was recently exposed to certain IIM grads who until, perhaps yesterday I would revere and stare at,in awe. They were my role models instantly.Until recently, I was given a kick back to reality that people from the top B schools are not God. They are not blessed with super powers of any sort. There are the cream, but of late, I can't seem to find them anywhere. My notion of, " You're from IIM !!!! wow!!" has changed to,"You're from IIM???????? Uggghhhhh!!!". As years seem to pass, the crowd coming out of IIM seem so less motivated, less professional, no comment on charisma and character. And the fact that we have not seen a great CXO come out of the IIM's in the last 15 years is perhaps an indication of what a brand like the IIM is having to deal with.

I heard from one of the faculty that apparently they don't have much of a choice. The students that make it through the written exam are generally book worms and have all practiced their GD/PI rounds to perfection at coaching classes. The smarter students tend to move towards greener pastures on foreign shores. So they have to choose from what they get. I have been witness to such people. I have worked with so called IIM grads who could not spell if their lives depended on it. Over the past few months, the image that I had of what an IIM grad is, has been shattered to a point that I have lost faith in my preparations for the exam to get into such a college.

A recent video that was on the net shows what has happened to the brand of IIM.We already stand the risk of spoiling and tainting the brand of IIM with all these quota seats (Arjun Singh hai hai!!! ). It's a sad state of affairs that this is what we get out of the so called managers and hopeful CXO's of tomorrow.

While this may be just a small bunch that were lucky enough to do better in the written exam, it still does not give one the right to behave in such a manner. The whole brand of IIM is sacred to many of the alumni and hopefuls who want to get in. Such vulgarity is perhaps the worst branding a college can get. A friend of mine mentioned that this generally happens when people get together in a group and adrenaline is high. But I believe this still isn't an excuse to behave this way. Hopefully there is some difference between the 'educated' management student from the IIM/s and a common street monger.
