Did I just say THAT ???????

The world is spiraling towards anarchy. ( Ah..the melodrama!!!) Lehman Brothers files for bankruptcy and Merrill Lynch sell out. And I actually seem bothered.

The evening this happened, I actually had an hour long discussion with my Dad on the potential implications of what this may have on the global markets, how can India avoid being part of this spiral, etc. WHOA ! Rewind back 3 years.

I remember sitting with Dad and a relative of his while they spoke about something like this. And I was topping the scales on the boredom meter. Well who cared if some dumb bank closed down because they hired some twits from Harvard and Wharton, who could not add 2million and 2 million? Who cares about sub prime mortgage loans? Recession is WHAT? Fannie Mae isn’t a good looking dame? Anyway, what I am trying to say, I had the enthusiasm of an Undertaker. Hmmm, do I shoot myself in the head or shoot these two in the head and spare the world of more boring finance addicts? I swore, no matter what I do, I shall never be bothered about such things. After all the rock star lives on. (What did you say? Cornell is no longer with Audioslave? NO way!!! That is indeed earth shattering news!!!)

Fast forward 3 years, I actually asked dad, “Hey, now with the bank filing for bankruptcy, how do you think their investments in India would be affected? Would they have to follow suit or can we expect an organization like Reliance to buy them out?”” With global markets going down, can we expect this to be part of the backlash on projects from the US?”….and more nonsense on the same lines. This went on for an hour. And here is the scary part; I actually understood most of it. And here is the part where me from 3 years ago would kick the butt of present me, I actually seem concerned. (Even though I don’t make enough money to invest in anything more than a few drinks at the pub).

I am sure the market watchers and money makers of the world are pumping their fists, “YES!!!!!! Another one converted to our cause of financial world domination! “

Whatever happened to “rock will rule the world…?”
