And we shall hit snooze and go back to sleep….

Mumbai has been ravaged. The country stands dwindling its thumbs not sure how and when this happened. It just did!!! They walked in and left as martyrs to some silly f**ked up religious cause. (Religion is the worst thing that man created). While all we can do is point fingers, hold processions, change governments…all this while the dead are being used for brownie points by the next bunch of jokers who want to ruin…not run…ruin the country.

We woke up, we stared in disbelief. The world joined us. But that is all we did, that is all we will ever do. We might be the largest democracy in the world, but we are hopeless as citizens. Through all this, politicians find their next trump card. And we will continue electing government after government that will never really care about people. They talk about the ‘resilience’ of Mumbai to get back to its feet. It has got nothing to do with resilience. The people have no choice but to wake up and go to work, despite terror attacks, floods, political rampage etc. They have no choice, if they live in fear, no one will feed the family. It has nothing to do with resilience, they don’t have a choice.

I don’t completely blame the government either. We, the citizens are to blame as well. Even after all this, we will never unite as people of this country. We will continue to bicker and hate under our breaths. Indians are the biggest racists of all. I have a lot of respect for the Americans, post 9/11, for only one thing. They are united as people. And it’s not just the upper or educated classes that chant and rant about national pride, it is everyone. But in India, we will never unite. Just the other day, when all this mayhem and chaos was over, I was driving around my city. I could not find one national flag. Not one indication of the saffron, white and green anywhere. But instead, I saw tons of flags of red and yellow which was the adopted flag of this state. Most buildings sport the flag out of fear of some local hooligans who would gladly stone and destroy the building if they did not show their allegiance to the state. Isn’t this terrorism of some sort? Isn’t this? How is it different from what the Taliban were doing in Afghanistan??? I see no difference.

Not one sign of national pride anywhere. Technically, as a republic, no state is allowed to adopt a flag, but we Indians have no respect for anything. No constitution, no government. After 9/11, one could see American flags everywhere in the US; at airports, bus stops, hanging from buildings, houses of people…but we Indians will never ever do any such thing. We will never display our national flag proudly. We somehow feel ashamed to display national pride. Instead we divide ourselves on religion, caste, state and all the other BS that are tools that help terrorists destroy the fragile harmony. We will continue to look at differences like hindu/muslim…north Indian/south Indian… we will continue treating our brethren from the north east as Chinese….we will continue in humiliating people who are not natives of our respective state…and we will do all this without batting an eye…without an ounce of remorse. We will continue to display flags of the worthless vile dogs we call politicians, we will continue our blatant disregard for anyone who does not adopt our view, and will choose to beat them up in the name of democracy and sentiment.

More terrorists will come, more people will die…but we will remain who we are. And don’t think that this is only those who are economically deprived or uneducated, no sir!!! The educated hard working Indian who chooses to be a mute spectator is equally at fault. Doing nothing to prevent crime is a crime too!!!

I have a dream…that one day I would see Indians united as people and not just for a few weeks after a terrorist attack or during a cricket match…that one day, we will put aside our religious differences and personal opinions and embrace the nation as one…that one day, I would see flags of my country fluttering everywhere…rather than just cheap imitations being sold on Independence Day and Republic Day…that one day, we would stand up as people of one nation!!!!

But for now, all we will do is continue to embrace our hopeless beliefs, politics, religion and hit the snooze button on the alarm and go back to sleep once the candlelight vigil is over. I hate these terrorists, but I think I hate us even more.
